Politics is often filled with claims, counterclaims, excuses, and attempts to rewrite history. But one thing that cannot be hidden for long is performance. When leaders leave office, their records remain for the people to judge.
In Osun State today, the comparison between the immediate past administration of Gboyega Oyetola and the current administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke is becoming clearer by the day.
That is why we ask: What exactly are Oyetola’s supporters defending?
The Records: $20.5 Million vs Zero Grant
According to World Bank IMPACT Project records published by the Federal Ministry of Health, the Oyetola administration received about $20.5 million in Primary Health Care grants between 2018 and 2022. The goal was simple: strengthen healthcare delivery across Osun’s 332 wards.
The people’s expectation was basic: functional health centres, drugs on shelves, quality care for mothers and children, and 24/7 services at the grassroots.
Yet by 2022, the reality was different. Multiple PHCs remained dilapidated, without power, water, or essential drugs. Across several LGAs, communities continued to complain of weak healthcare access. Osun ranked among the lowest in national health indices throughout the period. No national or regional award was recorded.
Today, Osun people are witnessing a different approach.
Without accessing the same PHC grant, the Adeleke administration has rehabilitated 345 Primary Health Centres statewide as of August 2025. Of these, 200 PHCs now operate with 24-hour solar power and borehole water sources across all 332 wards.
These are not painted buildings for commissioning. They are functional centres where nurses run night shifts, vaccines stay cold, and women deliver safely.
The Results Speak: From Bottom to 1st Place
The improvement has brought national recognition:
1. Osun State emerged 1st place in the Federal Government/NGF Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge in both 2024 and 2025.
2. The state secured $1 million from the Ford Foundation in March 2024 for health system strengthening — an award for measurable results, not a loan or grant.
These achievements do not happen by accident. They are results of planning, commitment, and practical leadership.
So Again, What Exactly Are They Defending?
If there are achievements to defend, let them be presented openly with ward names, photos, and dates. Let facts speak louder than emotions. Let records speak louder than party slogans.
The people of Osun are not blind. They can see the health centres being revived, OHIS coverage expanding to residents, and governance returning to the grassroots.
This is why Governor Ademola Adeleke continues to enjoy strong public support. It is not by noise. It is not by propaganda. It is because visible results always defeat empty rhetoric.
In the end, politics is not about who speaks the loudest. It is about who serves the people better.
And today in Osun State, the difference is clear for all to see.
