…ASA Calls for Evidence-Based Debate as Osun Election Approaches
The Advocacy for Strategic Alliance (ASA), Osun State Chapter, has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to base its campaign on verifiable records instead of claims that Osun residents are dissatisfied with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
“Osun voters are not swayed by slogans. They judge by what they see, what they earn, and what has changed in their communities,” ASA said in a statement today.
The group was responding to comments by APC spokesperson, Engr. Remi Omowaiye, who alleged public frustration with the current government ahead of the August 15 governorship poll.
ASA drew a direct comparison between the two administrations to highlight the contrast in governance outcomes:
2010–2022: Osun witnessed 30 months of half salaries, unpaid pensions, abandoned projects, and deteriorating schools and health centres. Federal allocations and IGR management during that period remain largely unexplained to the public.
2023–2026: The current administration has restored full salary payments, cleared inherited arrears, rehabilitated over 350km of roads, upgraded health facilities to international standards, and delivered 31 tractors with implements to farmers. WAEC and NECO results have also improved, while Osun was ranked first in Southwest healthcare delivery for two consecutive years.
“The facts are on the ground. Roads are being built. Schools are being equipped. Health centres have drugs and staff. Pensioners are being paid. That is the difference between promises and performance,” ASA stated.
The group accused the APC of selective memory and challenged the party to publish a full account of how public funds were managed during its 12-year tenure.
“Osun people remember half salaries. They also see ongoing road construction in Iwo, Ede, Ilesa, and Ile-Ife. They see water projects revived in rural areas. They see teachers recruited and classrooms rebuilt. You can not erase that with press statements,” the statement read.
ASA stressed that the August 15 election presents a clear choice between continuity of visible development and a return to past fiscal and administrative failures.
“Come August 15, Osun will decide based on evidence. The people are energized by the pace of work and the accountability they now see in governance. We urge all parties to present policy alternatives and let the people choose.”
ASA reaffirmed its commitment to credible leadership and called on all political actors to maintain a respectful, issue-based campaign.
“The future of Osun is too important for propaganda. Let’s keep the debate focused on development, transparency, and the welfare of the people.”
