Hon. Comrade James Onifade has regained his freedom after being arrested earlier today while on his way to cast his vote at his polling unit in Ward 4, Osogbo, Osun State.

Onifade, a dedicated columnist, advocate for good governance and a strong voice for citizens’ rights, was reportedly arrested by the police over an alleged hit-and-run incident.

However, his associates maintained that his movement at the time of the arrest was connected to the ongoing Osun governorship election.

His release has been welcomed by colleagues, supporters and advocates who had raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

The development has also renewed calls for security agencies to exercise professionalism and ensure that citizens and election stakeholders are not unnecessarily harassed or intimidated while participating in the democratic process.

The successful release of Comrade Onifade was also made possible through the intervention and support of the Accord Osogbo Local Government leaders.

The Secretary to the Osun State Government, High Chief Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, also intervened in the matter, with his efforts contributing significantly to ensuring that Onifade regained his freedom.
