Comrade James Onifade has joined Nigerians and the global community in celebrating teachers on the occasion of this year’s Teachers’ Day, describing teachers as the foundation upon which every successful society is built.

Onifade paid glowing tribute to teachers across the world for their immense contributions, describing them as selfless nation-builders, mentors, moral guides, and architects of human civilisation. He noted that from the community to the nation and to the world at large, teachers remain the pillars of progress and the heartbeat of humanity.

According to him, at the community level, teachers build character and instill values, discipline, and knowledge in children at the grassroots. At the national level, they produce the professionals who drive development — doctors, engineers, leaders, and innovators. Globally, teachers are the collective force advancing civilisation, bridging the gap between ignorance and knowledge, and promoting peace through education.

He commended teachers for their dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in educating and mentoring the younger generation, noting that their contributions extend beyond the classroom to shaping responsible citizens and future leaders who serve their communities, the nation, and the world.

He stated: “The world owes an immeasurable debt of gratitude to teachers. From the remotest villages in Africa to the most advanced cities in the world, teachers remain the light that dispels ignorance, the bridge that connects dreams to reality, and the heartbeat of every progressive society. Their labour may be silent, but its impact echoes from the community to the nation and to the entire world.”

He called on governments at all levels to give greater attention to the teaching profession through improved welfare, better working conditions, adequate teaching facilities, regular training and professional development, and appropriate recognition for teachers.

According to him, teachers deserve the same level of seriousness and consideration accorded to other professions, because virtually every professional in society passed through the hands of a teacher.

He said: “Teachers are builders of the future. Their work may not always receive the recognition it deserves, but every society that desires sustainable development must place the welfare and professional growth of its teachers among its priorities.”

Onifade urged members of the public to continue appreciating teachers and recognising their contributions, stressing that Teachers’ Day should serve as a reminder that teachers deserve to be celebrated and supported every day.

He wished teachers across Nigeria and around the world a happy Teachers’ Day and reaffirmed the importance of investing in them for a better and more educated society.
