The people of Osun State have continued to witness remarkable infrastructural development under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke. Across the state, roads are being rehabilitated, flyovers are being constructed and completed, and communities are benefiting from projects designed to improve the lives of residents.
Unfortunately, these developmental strides now appear to be overshadowed by disturbing reports of damage to public infrastructure in parts of the state.
A public safety alert was issued following reports of a massive crack on the newly constructed Lameco Flyover in Osogbo. Residents have been advised not to ply the bridge until further notice and to make use of alternative routes while the appropriate authorities carry out necessary investigations.
It is simply not possible for a gigantic project like the Lameco Flyover, commissioned barely two weeks ago, to develop such a major structural crack without the application of external force. No newly commissioned flyover collapses or cracks in this manner on its own. This points to the possibility of sabotage through the use of explosives or other blasting materials. Every reasonable observer knows that such damage can not occur naturally within weeks of commissioning.
This development came amid allegations circulating in the public space that attempts were also made to damage the Ile-Ife Flyover. Some residents and political stakeholders have accused elements within the opposition of sponsoring acts intended to undermine the achievements of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration. These allegations must be thoroughly and impartially investigated by security agencies.
If anyone is found culpable, regardless of political affiliation, they must face the full weight of the law.
Politics must never become a war against development. Public infrastructure belongs to the people of Osun State and should never become a tool for political gamesmanship. Destroying or damaging projects executed with taxpayers’ money is an attack on every resident of the state.
What is even more unfortunate is that those who could not deliver these projects while in government are allegedly seeking to discredit the successes being recorded today. The proper response to political rivalry is not the destruction of public assets but the presentation of superior ideas and programs to the electorate.
The Osun APC should take a rest over Governor Ademola Adeleke. The Governor’s performance remains visible across the state and can not be erased by propaganda or any act of sabotage. If the opposition believes it has a better alternative for the people of Osun, it should sell its agenda and allow the people to make their choice democratically.
Any individual or group that may be involved in acts capable of endangering lives through damage to public infrastructure is not only attacking the present administration but also destroying the political aspirations they claim to be advancing. No governorship ambition is worth risking the lives and safety of the people of Osun State.
The security agencies must immediately investigate every reported incident surrounding the Lameco and Ile-Ife flyovers. The truth must prevail, and those responsible must be held accountable.
As Osun prepares for another democratic exercise on August 15, political actors must understand that elections are won through service, ideas, and the goodwill of the people — not through bitterness, intimidation, or acts that threaten public safety.
The people of Osun are watching. Development must be protected, and democracy must be allowed to flourish. No amount of alleged politically motivated attacks will diminish the achievements that residents can see and experience for themselves.
Osun will triumph over every act that seeks to undermine its progress. The future of the state is greater than the ambitions of any political party or individual.
