…Procurement of CCTV Surveillance Systems Will Curb Recurring Vandalism

The Lameco Flyover Bridge in Osogbo has been attacked again. Barely weeks after Governor Ademola Adeleke commissioned it, the structure has been vandalised for the second time.
This is not coincidence. It is not about rainfall. It is a clear failure of security, and the spotlight must fall squarely on the Osun Amotekun Corps.
Governor Adeleke has reportedly queried the Amotekun commander assigned to protect the bridge. That query is necessary and long overdue.
The question every Osun resident must ask is simple: Where were the operatives when the bridge was being vandalised? Were they on duty? Or did they abandon their post?
Amotekun was created to safeguard lives and critical public infrastructure. The Lameco Flyover is a major project meant to ease traffic and serve the people. Yet it has been left exposed.
If personnel were deployed after the first attack, their absence during this second attack is pure negligence. Infrastructure built with taxpayers’ money cannot be left at the mercy of saboteurs because those paid to guard it were nowhere to be found.
We must ask the hard questions. Were some operatives compromised? Were they induced by APC elements desperate to score cheap political points ahead of the 2026 elections by destroying the visible achievements of this administration?
The pattern is clear: attack a new project, then shout “shoddy work.” This raises legitimate suspicion of collusion to create propaganda.
In this age of digital and technological advancement, it is imperative for the Osun State Government to procure and install CCTV surveillance systems across all major government projects. This will provide real-time monitoring and create an easy channel to detect vandals, saboteurs, and their sponsors or financiers. Going digital in security surveillance is the only way to effectively protect and maintain the projects built for the benefit and progress of the people of Osun State.
Anybody found vandalising government property must be arrested immediately. There should be no sacred cows. Whether they are political thugs, hired agents, or common criminals, the law must take its full course. Destroying public infrastructure is an attack on the progress of all Osun people.
Beyond Lameco, every government project across the state must now be under serious surveillance. All major roads, bridges, and public facilities must be properly secured. Any saboteur caught must be arrested and prosecuted. No one should escape justice.
Governor Adeleke’s decision to query the Amotekun commander is a step in the right direction. But a query is not enough. There must be a thorough investigation, accountability, and sanctions. Those who derelicted their duty, or worse, compromised the bridge’s security, must face consequences.
Security agencies must also fish out and arrest everyone involved in the vandalism of Lameco Flyover and other government projects.
Infrastructure means nothing if it can be destroyed with ease. Lameco and other projects should stand as symbols of progress, not as recurring sites of sabotage enabled by negligence.
Osun Amotekun must wake up. The governor has done his part.
