A group, the Osun Leadership Forum, has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking the removal of Senator Fadeyi Oluwole Olubiyi, popularly known as Ajagunla, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a petition dated October 2, 2026, signed by its solicitor, Adewale Adegoke, Esq., of Wale Adegoke & Partners (Moteleola Chambers), the group alleged that Senator Olubiyi’s emergence violated relevant provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026 and the party’s membership and primary election guidelines.
The petition was anchored on the circumstances surrounding the lawmaker’s movement between the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC), his participation in the APC primary election, and his subsequent return to the PDP after the party had conducted its senatorial primary and produced another candidate.
The group also cited the Supreme Court judgment in Appeal No. SC/CR/495/2026, INEC v. Zenith Labour Party, which it said reinforces statutory requirements on political party membership registers and eligibility to participate in party primaries.
According to the petition, Senator Olubiyi was not a member of the PDP at the time its primary was conducted, his name was not in the membership register submitted to INEC, and the process through which he later emerged was not a fresh primary monitored by the Commission as required by law.
The Osun Leadership Forum therefore urged INEC to de-recognise Senator Olubiyi as the PDP candidate for Osun Central and to remove his name from the Commission’s 2027 list of candidates, citing alleged violations of the Electoral Act and the rights of party members who participated in the earlier primary.
The group gave INEC 48 hours from receipt of the letter to act on its demand, stating that failure to do so would result in legal action.
The development is expected to generate fresh legal and political tension in Osun Central as preparations for the 2027 election continue.
