Former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s condemnation of the post-election violence in Osun is noted. But Osun people need more than statements. We need action.
During the last governorship election, Osun witnessed allegations of intimidation, thuggery, and partisan policing under then-CP Ibrahim Gotan. At that time, there was silence. Today, there is condemnation. The question is simple: what has changed?
If those behind the current attacks are supporters acting in your name, Your Excellency, the path is clear: call them to order publicly. Leadership is tested not in words, but in what you do when your own people step out of line.
The good news is that the police leadership has changed. CP Ibrahim Gotan has been transferred. The new police structure has no excuse to shield anyone. Any person who engages in thuggery, intimidation, or violence must face the full weight of the law — no matter the party.
Osun is the “State of the Living Spring”. We cannot afford to trade that reputation for political vendetta. The election is over.
Therefore, I urge Alhaji Oyetola to:
1. Address his supporters directly and demand an immediate stop to all violence.
2. Support peace meetings across party lines to de-escalate tension.
3. Back security agencies to arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable.
Condemnation after damage is not leadership. Leadership is preventing the next attack.
Mr. Oyetola, don’t just condemn the violence. Stop it.
