In an era where social media amplifies rumors and half-truths, good governance stands out not through deceit but through tangible performance. This is precisely the story of His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State. Since assuming office in November 2022, Governor Adeleke has transformed Osun through a series of impactful initiatives, earning national recognition and awards for excellence in infrastructure, empowerment, security, and more. Yet, amid these achievements, misinformation campaigns often politically motivated seek to undermine his leadership.
A Legacy of Accountability and Transparency
One of the most persistent pieces of misinformation about Nigerian governors is the notion that they routinely embezzle public funds.
Governor Adeleke shatters this stereotype through unwavering accountability. From day one, his administration has prioritized transparency in financial management, making public disclosures of state revenues and expenditures a hallmark of his tenure.
A key example is the handling of federal allocations. Contrary to online claims that paint a picture of lavish misuse, not all published federal allocations are fully disbursed to states like Osun. Hon. Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, has repeatedly clarified this during interviews and public statements. He emphasized that while federal allocations are publicized, discrepancies often arise some entitled funds are withheld by the federal government, leading to shortfalls that states must navigate. This isn’t mere praise; it’s a verifiable truth supported by ongoing legal battles. For instance, Osun State successfully challenged the federal government in court over withheld local government allocations totaling over N131.5 billion for 10 months, with the Supreme Court faulting the federal seizure as unlawful.
Despite these challenges, Governor Adeleke has ensured that available resources are deployed efficiently, funding critical projects without excuses.
This level of fiscal responsibility extends to worker welfare. The governor has cleared salary arrears inherited from previous administrations, implemented a new minimum wage, and enhanced pension payments moves that have boosted morale and productivity across the civil service. Such actions directly counter baseless accusations of financial impropriety, proving that Adeleke’s governance is rooted in integrity.
Monumental Achievements in Three Years
Governor Adeleke’s performance speaks volumes, with achievements spanning infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, and youth empowerment. In just three years, Osun has seen massive infrastructure renewal: over 20km of roads constructed, portable boreholes provided in all 333 wards, and ongoing upgrades to schools and hospitals.
These efforts have earned him top awards, including the ICON of Good Governance from the Nigerian Books of Record, and recognition from the PDP for drawing national attention to Osun’s progress.
In education, revitalized schools with better resources and environments have improved learning outcomes. Health and water access have surged, with new facilities ensuring broader coverage. Agriculture initiatives have increased food production and created jobs for farmers and youth. Empowerment programs, such as disbursing over N2 billion to households and wards, have directly benefited 20,000 families.
Even security has improved under his watch, contributing to a safer state.
These accomplishments aren’t just statistics; they’re felt in every nook and cranny of Osun, as acknowledged by residents, traditional rulers, labor leaders, and even some opposition members. Initiatives like the Adeleke Youth Development Initiative (AYDI) use data to showcase these impacts, countering propaganda with facts.
Debunking the Misinformation Machine
Misinformation about Governor Adeleke often stems from political desperation. False claims include fabricated stories of party defections (e.g., to ADC or Accord), nonexistent private meetings, and doubts about his educational qualifications.
Some even spread lies that he’s not truly in charge of the state a blatant distortion of constitutional reality. Other debunked fakes involve viral videos or grant scams misattributed to him.
These narratives are often traced to opposition elements, as seen in APC’s accusations dismissed by the governor’s team as “lies from the pit of hell.” The administration has consistently urged the public to avoid fake news, noting that spreading misinformation is not only unethical but can be punishable under law.
As Osun approaches the 2026 election, such tactics only highlight the strength of Adeleke’s record.
Why Governor Adeleke Deserves Re-election
Reelecting Governor Adeleke isn’t about continuity for its own sake, it’s about building on proven success. His administration has repositioned Osun on the global map through excellence and passionate leadership. With the 2026 budget signed to consolidate gains in welfare, infrastructure, and arrears resolution, the path forward is clear. Support from labor, religious leaders, and youth groups underscores popular backing. Even critics within the APC admit his visible works make him hard to unseat.
In a state that has seen the benefits of purposeful governance improved salaries, empowered locals, and renewed infrastructure reelecting Adeleke ensures sustained progress. Osun’s people deserve a leader whose performance matches their aspirations, not one swayed by deceitful campaigns.
A Word of Caution to Critics
To those spreading bad things about Governor Adeleke: be careful. Misinformation doesn’t just erode trust; it can backfire legally and politically. Nigerian laws against fake news and defamation are clear, and the administration has warned against disinformation aimed at destabilizing the state. Focus on facts, not fabrications.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s governance exemplifies performance over propaganda. As Osun heads into 2026, his reelection isn’t just deserved, it’s essential for continued prosperity. Let’s celebrate true leadership and reject the noise.
