The Osun State Civil Society Matters Committee (OSCSMC) has strongly condemned what it described as the second gun attack in Osogbo within one week, warning that the recurrence of violence in the state capital is alarming and unacceptable.
OSCSMC strongly condemned the reported gunshots of alleged thugs loyal to APC around Oke-Fia, Owode and Aisu in the heart of Osogbo Metropolis, describing the incident as a reckless act capable of causing panic and unrest among residents. This comes barely one week after the Osogbo Local Government Party Chairman was shot and left with severe injuries. The Chairman remains hospitalized.
The committee expressed concern that such an incident was reported in the heart of the Osun State capital, warning that no political ambition should be pursued through intimidation, violence or actions capable of disrupting public peace. OSCSMC described both incidents as reckless acts capable of causing panic, unrest, and eroding public confidence in the safety of the capital city.
“Residents should not be made to live in fear because of political activities. Security agencies must act decisively to prevent a recurrence and reassure the public that Osun remains safe for all,” the committee stated. “No political ambition justifies intimidation or bloodshed. Osun is known for peace, and that peace must be protected at all costs.”
OSCSMC called on the Osun State Police Command and all other security agencies to work in synergy to immediately investigate both incidents, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice without delay.
The committee further urged all political parties and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid actions capable of heating up the polity ahead of future elections.
OSCSMC also addressed residents of Osogbo to remain calm as necessary action will be taken by security operatives and the government of the day. There should be no panic within and outside Osogbo. Residents and innocent citizens are advised to return to their businesses and other lawful engagements while confidence in the security of the state capital is restored.
