In the festering swamp of Nigerian politics, where ambition devours integrity and loyalty is a commodity traded like cheap garri, two self-proclaimed titans of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are locked in a pathetic brawl that’s accelerating the party’s slide into irrelevance. Nyesom Wike, the blustering Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, are not just clashing over a March convention, they’re marauding through the remnants of what was once Nigeria’s dominant opposition force, pillaging its unity for their bloated egos.
These PDP marauders, with their endless scheming and backstabbing, deserve nothing less than eternal unrest for their bodies, souls, and spirits. May their nights be haunted by the ghosts of the party’s fallen glory, and their days plagued by the scorn of the electorate they’ve betrayed.
Let’s dissect this farce unfolding ahead of the so-called national convention slated for March 29-30, 2026. The Wike-backed faction, hiding behind a dubious “National Caretaker Committee” led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Samuel Anyanwu, has the audacity to proclaim that their sham gathering will proceed despite ongoing litigation. They’ve even notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as if slapping a stamp of legitimacy on a rotten fruit makes it edible. In a laughable interview with The PUNCH, their mouthpieces Jungudo Mohammed and Okechukwu Osuoha parrot commitments to an “inclusive” convention.
Inclusive? This is the same Wike who has spent years undermining the PDP from within, cozying up to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while pretending to fight for opposition ideals. Wike, the eternal agitator, the man who can’t decide if he’s a PDP loyalist or an APC mole, is now orchestrating a power grab disguised as party renewal. His fingerprints are all over this chaos, and it’s clear: Wike isn’t saving the PDP; he’s burying it alive to build his personal empire on its grave.
But let’s not spare Makinde, that sanctimonious governor from Oyo who postures as the voice of reason while fanning the flames of division. His faction, fronted by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), dismisses Wike’s camp as lacking “capacity and locus” to hold the convention.
Oh, the irony! Makinde, who has aligned himself with other governors like Bala Mohammed in past squabbles, is no stranger to factional warfare. Remember the botched November 2025 convention in Ibadan? That was Makinde’s playground, a failed spectacle that only deepened the PDP’s fractures.
Now, he objects to Wike’s moves not out of principle, but because it threatens his own slice of the pie. Makinde talks a big game about party unity, but his actions scream self-preservation. He’s the classic opportunist charming in public, conniving in private willing to let the PDP implode as long as he emerges as the kingmaker in whatever splinter group survives.
These two marauders aren’t rivals in ideology; they’re twins in treachery. Wike, with his bombastic rhetoric and history of political betrayals (lest we forget his fallout with former allies like Peter Obi), embodies the crude, thuggish side of Nigerian politics. He’s the bully who throws tantrums when he doesn’t get his way, dissolving structures and shifting dates like a child rearranging toys. Makinde, on the other hand, cloaks his ambitions in intellectual veneer, but scratch the surface and you’ll find the same rot: a man who prioritizes personal alliances over national opposition strength. Together, they’ve turned the PDP into a circus of court victories, expulsions, and tear-gas standoffs, as seen in recent clashes at the party headquarters.
Governors molested? Immunity violated? Spare us the drama, the real victims are the millions of Nigerians who once looked to the PDP as a bulwark against APC’s failures, only to watch it devoured by internal predators.
The PDP’s crisis isn’t just about dates or committees; it’s a symptom of deeper decay fueled by Wike and Makinde’s insatiable hunger for control.
While the APC consolidates power ahead of 2027 elections, these fools bicker over scraps, expelling members, dissolving executives, and courting legal battles that drain resources better spent on rebuilding. Wike’s court “victory” allowing his faction to push forward? A pyrrhic win that only highlights how low the party has sunk—relying on judges instead of consensus.
Makinde’s warnings against “hijack”? Pot, meet kettle. Both men have hijacked the PDP’s soul, leaving it a hollow shell unfit to challenge the status quo.
To Wike and Makinde: Your marauding days are numbered. The Nigerian people see through your charade. You’ve unsettled the PDP; now, may your own bodies, souls, and spirits know no peace. Eternal agitation for your ambitions, perpetual division in your ranks, and the unrelenting judgment of history upon you. The party you claim to love deserves better than your toxic tango step aside, or be swept away by the tide of irrelevance you’ve unleashed.
As the March convention looms, one thing is clear: Without purging these marauders, the PDP’s resurrection is a pipe dream.
