The family of Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and leading All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons by suspected gunmen in Ibadan.
In a statement, the family said the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, as Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school. Armed assailants intercepted her vehicle and abducted the 43-year-old woman and her twin sons, Peter and Paul.
The family described the development as distressing. Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Before her voluntary retirement last year, she worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian.
All relevant security agencies have been notified and have commenced investigations, the family said. The whereabouts of the victims remain unknown at the time of filing this report. Security operatives have placed the area under surveillance and are conducting a thorough investigation to apprehend the abductors and secure the safe release of Mrs. John-Paul and her sons.
While expressing confidence in law enforcement, the family urged the public to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information that could compromise ongoing rescue operations.
