The Independent National Electoral Commission has disowned the APC’s claim of 12.9 million registered members, exposing a pattern of propaganda and misinformation from the ruling party.
APC leaders paraded the figure to create a false impression of overwhelming popularity. INEC has now made it clear: the statistics did not come from the Commission.
This incident raises serious questions about the APC’s credibility. A party that resorts to inflated numbers cannot credibly speak about integrity and accountability.
Nigerians are already dealing with economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and unfulfilled promises. Instead of addressing these challenges, the APC appears more focused on polishing its image through unverified claims and media spin ahead of the next election cycle.
It is embarrassing for a ruling party to circulate unverified figures and be contradicted by the very electoral body it cited. Nigerians deserve leadership built on honesty, transparency, and verifiable facts, not manufactured popularity.
No amount of inflated statistics can hide the reality on the ground. Hunger cannot be covered with press releases. Insecurity cannot be explained away with numbers. Economic hardship cannot be disguised with photo-ops.
INEC’s clarification is more than a correction of figures. It is an indictment of a political culture that prioritizes optics over truth.
As the country approaches another election cycle, Nigerians must stay vigilant. We must reject leaders who value relevance over responsibility, and demand a government that respects the public with facts, not fiction.
The APC should shift focus from propaganda to policy. Address insecurity. Fix the economy. Create jobs. That is how you earn public trust, not by inflating membership rolls.
