The Advocacy for Good Governance in Nigeria (TAGGIN) has strongly condemned the recent destruction and vandalisation of political billboards and campaign materials in Osun State, warning that acts of political violence and intimidation pose a serious threat to the peace and stability of the state.
The group described the growing destruction of public properties for political reasons as unfortunate, stressing that democracy should never be reduced to a contest driven by hatred, aggression, or desperation for power.
According to TAGGIN, elections are meant to be peaceful opportunities for the people to freely choose their leaders based on competence, performance, and vision, not occasions for violence, vandalism, and the harassment of perceived opponents.

TAGGIN further appealed to youths and political supporters across Osun State to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid being used by desperate politicians to cause unrest.
“All good boys must be well-behaved and responsible in their conduct. Young people should not allow themselves to be used as tools to torment the peace of the state or destroy public properties because of politics. Leaders will come and go, but the consequences of violence and lawlessness often remain with the people,” the statement added.
The organisation also stressed the importance of preserving lives and maintaining peace during political activities, noting that violence benefits no one in the end.
“It is only those who are alive, free, and safe that can tell the story tomorrow. Politics should never lead to bloodshed, destruction, or needless conflict. Every political actor and supporter must understand that human life and public peace are far more valuable than temporary political interests.”
TAGGIN maintained that destroying billboards or campaign materials belonging to Governor Ademola Adeleke or any other political figure would not change the will of the people or determine electoral outcomes.
The organisation therefore called on security agencies to investigate the incidents of vandalism and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice, while also urging political parties and their supporters to embrace tolerance, maturity and issue-based campaigns ahead of future elections.
TAGGIN reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peaceful democratic participation, responsible leadership, and good governance across Nigeria.
