Hon. Toyin Anibire Adams, popularly known as Obailukan, has felicitated teachers across Nigeria on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, describing them as indispensable builders of the nation’s future.
Obailukan commended teachers for their dedication, patience, and sacrifices in nurturing young minds and equipping the next generation with the knowledge and values needed to contribute meaningfully to society.
He noted that while Teachers’ Day provides an opportunity to celebrate and appreciate teachers, their contributions should not be recognised only on a special day. According to him, teachers deserve consistent appreciation, respect, and support throughout the year.
Obailukan therefore called on governments at all levels to give greater consideration to teachers by prioritising their welfare, improving their working conditions, providing adequate teaching and learning facilities, and ensuring that their remuneration and professional development receive the attention they deserve.
He stressed that teaching is as important as every other profession because virtually every professional, including doctors, nurses, journalists, engineers, and lawyers, was once shaped by a teacher.
“Teachers are builders of the future. When we invest in teachers, we are investing directly in the future of our children and the development of our nation. Their welfare must therefore be treated as a priority, not an afterthought,” he said.
Obailukan also urged society to show greater respect for the teaching profession, noting that teachers play a critical role beyond the classroom by serving as mentors, role models, and nation-builders.
He wished teachers a happy Teachers’ Day and assured them that their sacrifices and contributions to national development remain deeply appreciated.
He added that teachers should be celebrated every day, not only on Teachers’ Day, because the future they are building is the future of everyone.
