...Party files formal motion to discontinue tribunal case weeks after unauthorized filing sparked leadership crisis
The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, have officially filed a motion to withdraw their election petition challenging the outcome of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The notice of motion, marked Petition No: EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo.
In the document titled “Notice of Motion to Withdraw Petition,” the APC and Oyebamiji notified the tribunal of their intent to discontinue proceedings against Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, the Accord Party, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who were listed as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respondents respectively.
According to the document dated September 7, 2026, and received and certified by the Tribunal Secretary, Diete Spiff Belemo, on September 8, 2026, the motion seeks an order of the tribunal to withdraw the action based on the “Decision of Petitioner.”
The application was prepared and submitted on behalf of the petitioners by legal counsel from Adoniram Chambers, led by Oyagbile Oluseyi Esq., Alfred A. Adegoke Esq., G.O Oludayo Esq., Zakariyahu Azeez Esq., and Omobomi Afolabi Esq.
With the formal motion now served on all interested parties, the tribunal is expected to convene to hear the application and issue a final ruling on the withdrawal of the petition.
The withdrawal comes weeks after an unauthorized petition purportedly filed in the name of the APC and Oyebamiji triggered a leadership split within the Osun chapter of the party, with national leaders distancing themselves from the suit.
