The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
An official internal wireless signal issued from the Force Secretariat directed CP Gotan to assume duty as the Commissioner of Police, Communications Operations, CP Comm Ops, at the Force Headquarters on a special duty assignment. The directive was dispatched across zonal commands, state police commands, and specialized formations nationwide, with instructions for strict compliance.
CP Gotan’s redeployment comes amid renewed scrutiny of his conduct during the last Osun governorship election. Stakeholders and civil society groups had raised concerns over security operations under his watch, alleging partisanship and inadequate response to pockets of tension in some local government areas. The complaints intensified in the aftermath of the election, with calls for a review of the command structure to guarantee neutrality ahead of future political activities in the state.
Addressing public concerns over institutional neutrality and security management, police authorities confirmed that an election commissioner of police was subsequently assigned to oversee operations in Osun State to ensure public trust and maintain internal order during the polls.
Reactions have trailed the transfer across political quarters in Osun. Government representatives and key stakeholders described the move as a necessary step to restore confidence in the police and address security concerns raised by residents.
The IGP emphasized that the redeployment is in line with the Force’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of democratic processes. CP Gotan is expected to resume his new administrative duties in Abuja immediately.
