Comrade James Onifade has faulted the claim by APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji that Osun electorate will choose him as the next governor, describing it as overconfidence that ignores current realities.
“The people of Osun have already shown through their sentiments: AMBO/APC is rejected even before election day,” Onifade said. “This is not a prediction, but a reflection of the distrust the party faces across the state.”
He noted that residents still recall the challenges of previous APC administrations, including heavy taxation, infrastructure gaps, and governance issues during the Aregbesola-Oyetola era when Oyebamiji served as Finance Commissioner. “You cannot assume the people’s will is settled in your favour while citizens are yearning for genuine change and peace,” he added.
According to Onifade, Osun voters will not be dictated to. “They will choose what gives them peace, security, and prosperity. They want leadership that prioritizes their welfare over recycled political elites.”
He questioned the APC’s capacity to deliver peace, citing debts, neglected rural infrastructure, and education challenges left by past governments in which Oyebamiji played a key role. “Promising a ‘Prosperity Agenda’ now rings hollow when the same party presided over hardship,” he said.
Onifade argued that Osun has moved on under Governor Ademola Adeleke, pointing to salary payments, school renovations, and relative stability. “The people see the difference and are unlikely to return to a platform many now view with regret.”
On the recent destruction of Accord billboards and posters, he said: “This act cannot erase the support the people of Osun have for Governor Adeleke.”
He concluded that no media declaration can mask the people’s desire to reject a return to past difficulties. “On election day, Osun will affirm its preference for progress over propaganda. The message is clear: Osun deserves better than recycled promises.”
