Following devastating rainstorms that hit Osogbo and surrounding communities on Saturday, March 28, 2026, leaving trails of damaged roofs, flooded homes, and disrupted lives, yet critics like the big mouthed APC have renewed attacks on the Ademola Adeleke-led administration over the N17 billion ecological fund. The criticism is just a misplaced and politically motivated.
In a swift response, Governor Ademola Adeleke expressed deep sympathy for victims and directed immediate intervention through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) and the Ministry of Works. He promised compensation for affected residents and ordered the rapid clearing of motorways to prevent further accidents.
The criticism, largely from opposition voices, questions the impact of approximately N11.9 billion approved by President Bola Tinubu in August 2024 and an additional N5 billion released in 2025 for ecological interventions in Osun State. Detractors claim there is “little evidence of impact” amid recurring rainstorm damage. However,

Even in advanced nations with far superior infrastructure and resources, it remains a big challenge. No government can completely eliminate the effects of such unpredictable weather events.
Since assuming office in 2022, Governor Adeleke’s administration has prioritised proactive measures to mitigate flooding, which was rampant in previous years. Key efforts include the expansion and desilting of waterways, clearing of drainages, and removal of structures blocking natural water channels. These interventions have been credited with reducing the frequency and severity of flooding incidents compared to earlier periods when entire communities were routinely overwhelmed.
The Adeleke administration has also positioned Osun as a leader in subnational climate action, showcasing partnerships and initiatives at international forums like COP30.
As relief efforts continue and the state assesses the full extent of the weekend’s damage, the message from the government remains clear: Ademola Adeleke is actively working to protect lives and property. The focus now is on supporting victims and strengthening resilience, not entertaining baseless political distractions.
Osun residents should remain vigilant, adopt preventive measures like proper waste disposal and tree planting, and cooperate with authorities during this period. The Adeleke government has assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in delivering on its mandate.
