The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the Osun State Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management System Bill, 2026 into law.
The Bill was passed during plenary on Tuesday after scaling through its third reading, following the consideration of the report of the House Committee on Works and Transport.
The Executive Bill, sponsored by the Chairman, House Committee on Works and Transport, Hon. Abiola Ibrahim, seeks to establish a comprehensive and unified legal framework for the regulation of motor parks, garages, traffic management and revenue collection in the transport sector.
Leading debate on the general principles of the Bill, Hon. Ibrahim explained that the proposed law will sanitise revenue generation from motor parks, block leakages in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and institutionalise an accountable and transparent system for managing transport-related revenues.
He added that the Bill provides for the digitalisation of the ticketing system, organised operation of motor parks, and measures to curb thuggery, extortion, violence and other unlawful activities associated with park and garage operations.
Contributing to the debate, lawmakers harped on the need to restore order, peace and safety across motor parks in the state, particularly in view of recent disputes over control and management of some parks.
After exhaustive legislative scrutiny and clause-by-clause consideration, the House approved the Bill for third reading and final passage.
In his remarks, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, said a clean copy of the Bill will be transmitted to the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, for assent.
Egbedun noted that the passage marks another bold step by the 8th Assembly towards entrenching transparency, boosting IGR and ensuring orderliness in the transport and park management system for the overall benefit of the people and the state.
The House thereafter adjourned.
